Summary:
I do like it. I kinda wish I would have sprung for the Cub Cadet version of this for the added features, but they both work just the same.

Strengths:
I'd had one of these for about three seasons so far. Its been pretty solid for me. Its easy to get around despite the fact it does not have steering triggers, any bigger and I would want them for sure. Respectable power, does well in the typical 4-6" of heavy snow that we get in PA.

Weaknesses:
I chewed up a rug with it and sheared off some pins. That was my fault though.

Summary:
I really do like the ease of use and the ability of getting rid of a lot of snow in a short period of time. My wife and kids as young as 12 years of age use this machine without a problem. I would recommend this unit to anyone looking to save their back from shoveling. Here in northern Wisconsin I have not needed to put chains on this unit!

Strengths:
This can really throw the Wisconsin snow! It can go through light snow drifts and heavy snow that is 4-6 inches. Love the power of throwing the snow away from the drive way so it won't blow back into the drive way soon.

Weaknesses:
I have owned mine for three years and this has fired up and worked well each time I go out to use it... I want a wind block type cab for mine but until I get one I bundle up and try not to get hit in the face from blowing snow.

Summary:
Great performance and has never failed to operate after sitting the summer months.

Strengths:
Great machine. Easy to use, my wife has the driveway done before I get home from work.

Weaknesses:
The neighbors want and do use it to clear their driveways out. My son will be using it this year and charging for the service.

Junk

"I will never again buy any product from this company, particularly a snow blower. I have had this unit for three seasons with first breakdown within first three months, under warranty. Transmission cable broke. Toro refused to repair but offered free part. Shipped wrong size. Insisted it was right and that I should install it myself. Finally had to jury rig a coat hanger wire. Now the cable that controls the chute control is broken and has to be manually adjusted and held continuously to operate. Machine clogs continuously with any but the lightest snow. I bought this because it was made in America but the quality is an absolute joke. The only good thing about this unit is that it never fails to start. The Snow King Tecumseh engine is outstanding. Too bad the rest is junk.

Summary:
Just started the sixth season and it still starts easily, is reliable, and it throwes a lot of snow.

Strengths:
Starts easily. First start of the season I use the electric start, but after that, it takes off after one or two pulls. Two stage thrower handles the distance I need for the triple wide parking area next to my house. The thrower rarely clogs up, but is easy to clear with the tool provided if it does. Can control chute direction and height with one handle in the left hand while the right hand keeps the auger and drive engaged.

Weaknesses:
No steering, so you have to man handle it some. Not really a problem for a 1 - 2 hour job. Though last winter, I did five drives (mine and neighbors) in one day for a deep snow which wore me out. Only have had one repair which was trivial -- tighten up the cable that engages the drive. Have had it "run out of gas", but didn't need gas, just open up the gas cap -- so it seems the cap is not venting for some reason. Occasionally when engine starts to run rough, I just loosen and then retighten the gas cap and all is well. The chute does not lock in place, but the controls are design so that you can keep the auger and drive engaged with the right hand and use your left to guide the chute wherever you want it. Need to keep a can of WD40 handy to lubercate the chute when you start up each time -- this is just plastic moving on plastic -- not a corrosion issue.

Summary:
Find another manufacturer.

Strengths:
Starts up great, even after sitting all summer.

Weaknesses:
It's second stage continually get clogged, even with lubrication. Have to keep the auger running continually so snow / ice don't clog the second stage between the 2nd stage triangular base and it's circular housing. It stinks if the snow is wet or a little dense. Also the gear control cable has broken 2 seasons in a row, it's got a lead mold on the end of the cable and it keeps breaking. I plan on jury rigging my own connection, their cables are expensive and don't hold up.

DON'T BUY THIS MODEL!

Strengths:
JUNK!

Weaknesses:
Joystick controls are chintzy and don't last. Ran like crap from the get-go. Had to play with carb and add a spring to adjustment screw, just to keep it running. This year, electric start is shot.

Summary:
Thanks to all the previous posters, I wouldn't have known about the manual conversion kit to solve the joystick control problems without this forum. I had gotten used to adjusting the chute by hand, but the chute would often move while you're blowing (sometimes quickly) and that wasn't good. I took photos of my problems and solutions and posted them at http://www.usm.maine.edu/~collom/troybilt.html I called MTD as instructed here and they said that the conversion kit would work on my machine. It did not, I had to modify it. In particular, the handle of the chute control rod hits the snowblower's left handle with the auger control. Perhaps some of these models have different frames?

Strengths:
Starts easily with pull handle (don't need to use electric start). Auger and drive belts fairly easy to change for people who are not mechanically inclined. Does well with up to 8 inches of light snow.

Weaknesses:
Joystick chute control as documented by all here. Doesn't perform well with heavy wet snow, can only handle a few inches if at all. With heavy snow the chute clogs easily and barely spits out the slush.

Not a bad machine for the money but I wouldn't buy it again...

Strengths:
Always Starts..does well in all snow I have encountered in Connecticut

Weaknesses:
Horrible at the end of driveway where the slushy snow is...had to replace the friction wheel and a gear bearing...my fault as i should have greased it at the beginning of the year...a serious pain in the gluts to get parts which is odd as it was originally purchased at LOWES..you'd think they would stock wear parts..All local dealers must frown on MTD manufactured machines as nobody carries their parts

Summary:
I would not buy a "Troy Bilt" product again.I have a real Troy Bilt tiller that is 21 years old,and it's still like new.But there is not a Troy Bilt any more,it's all MTD.

Strengths:
When running it really can throw snow,it's done OK for the last six winters here in Vermont.

Weaknesses:
First season the electric starter failed, and now it is loose and have to hold it when starting. The joy stick does not work, chute moves when throwing snow. The auger grip does not stay down when running. And unit is starting to rust.

Summary:
DON'T BUY THIS MACHINE..I bought it because it was made in the USA but it is poorly built..Clogs even in lite snow and does not have the power to thro the snow as my old machine did. Engine does not run smooth and even the small engine shop that i took it to said that is the best it will do...My old machine (25 years old) still works far better than this one does. Very disappointed TBS

Strengths:
I cannot think of anything that I can say positive about it

Weaknesses:
Just about everything ..Cables break..engine runs poorly. The chute is made of cheap material. does not have the power to thro the snow as a two stage should.
