Summary:
This saw would be perfect for the farmer with an acerage with poplar and small willow and spruce/ pine under 25cm dia. Any thing larger or using this saw on a production fall would be useless. Great to clear underbrush.
Strengths:
Very light weight, good second saw, great on small diameter trees (under 8 inches) great for pre cleaning felled areas (access and egress trails). Great fuel economy, extremely durable. So -so limbing saw
Weaknesses:
no power on any major falling cuts, useless to buck large diameter trees. lower engine mounts (anti-vibe) fall out very easily. Quick non-tool fuel and oil caps are useless, husky has it there.

Overall nice saw, but for the money, you shouldn't have to turn wrenches after less than three years.

Got the pro model for the anti-vibration. Paid the extra money, but it ended up being the weak point. Had a bolt bust off with saw less than three years old.

18" bar with a good chain and i love this saw. Switched over from a Husq 51 and if you liked the 51 you'll LOVE this saw. I've had plenty of power felling trees.
Strengths:
Reliable, excellent working saw. Low vibration, good weight, good power.
Weaknesses:
Oil/Gas filler caps are a pain sometimes, pay attention when putting it on or you'll have gas/oil all over your chaps.

18" bar on it and I LOVE this saw. If you're using a saw frequently throughout the week than this is the saw. Yeah the gas/oil caps are a pain but once you got them figured out you're fine.
Strengths:
Reliable, tough, goodweight and Low vibration. Plenty of power dropping trees.
Weaknesses:
Oil and Gas filler caps are sometimes a pain to get on. Have come off a few times on me when they're not on correctly. A bit pricey for the everyday homeowner but I would sacrafice a thing on this saw to make it cheaper.

Summary:
You'll fall in love with this saw, be sure (like above) to get an 18" bar with a good chain, none of that low-kickback stuff either. The saw runs great and is built well for everyday use, and well I use it pratically everyday. Pay attention to the oil and gas caps and you'll be fine.
Strengths:
Reliable, tough, low vibration, and plenty of power. Easy to control and start.
Weaknesses:
Once I got the oil and gas caps down pat everything was fine. The price is a bit steep for a home owner but I'd hate to see Stihl make ANY changes to this saw to make it cheaper. It's worth every penny.

Summary:
Excellent choice for an entry-level saw in the 50cc power category, I run a 32:1 mix instead of 50:1
Strengths:
Durable/dependable saw, excellent value and quality, fairly light weight, adjustable oiler, sips fuel, easy starts, more than enough power for what I do most of the time, does any thing I ask it to around the home/property and then some. This little thing eats wood. If you are condsidering a cheaper saw from one of the Home Improvement stores I advise you to choose wisely, this saw is worth the few extra $$$ WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!
Weaknesses:
None yet. Tooless caps I like but take some getting used to, need to make sure they are seated right or you will have bar oil/fuel spills.

Summary:
I just purchased a Stihl 260 after owning a Stihl 034 for 25 years. The 034 was an exceptional saw for me and cut 12 cords of wood a year for me. I made the mistake of loaning to a neighbor and he forgot or did not mix oil with the gas and burnt it out. With apprehension I did not know whether the new 260 would fill the void. I was pleasantly surprised after using for 4 1/2 hours on some pretty big trees. It cut through ash trees like butter.
Strengths:
Has a lot of cutting power for a smaller saw. Cleans easily and seems to run a long time on one gas and oil fill. It has been a good replacement for my 25 year old 034.
Weaknesses:
I liked the gas and oil caps on the 034 better than the present ones on the 260 Pro. It takes awhile to get used to them but they are ok now.

Summary:
It a good saw and it is light which is why I bought one in the first place and the fact that there is a real brick & mortar store with parts and a mechanic. Not tons of power but enough for what I do. I like the $300 one much better than the $550+ one from the dealer, seems like a much more fair price. These are my first Stihl's and they still seem a little "weird" but am getting used to it. Good saw don't think you will be disapointed in anything but the price.
Strengths:
LIGHT, starts easily and runs great. For the weight it cuts pretty good and has decent power for it's size. I just bought another new one on eBay for $300.00 no bar and chain!
Weaknesses:
Cost's WAY TOO MUCH! I hate the cheap bar and chain it comes with. Oil cap has came loose once and ruined my shoes! I won't do that again.

I bought this thinking it would actually run without a problem, but it has run for about 10 hours with numerous repairs in between. I just had it tuned up last fall and now I took it to be repaired since it only works sporadically. The repair bill is $378. I was told the gas mix was bad and they are finicky that way. Problem is, there was no gas in it since I always drain it and use only Stihl oil and fresh gas. This thing is the biggest and most expensive POS in my yard arsenal. My 20 yr old Poulan chainsaw at least starts and cuts stuff up. This is a prima donna chainsaw.

Summary:
Im Happy with it. I carve mostly hardwoods, and this is the ticket. I carve alot of Myrtlewood, which is hard on tools. This saw performs better than any small saws I've used.
Strengths:
Light, killer power for a saw this small. Easy to start. excellent construction. I'm a carver. I bought it for my detail saw, and it makes my carvin bar scream. I tested its power with a 20 inch standard bar and chain. It handled Myrtlewood, full deep cuts. Big saw is alot faster.
Weaknesses:
None so far, its a small saw, its expensive, but I got tired of burning up 300 dollar saws. This ones gonna last.

Summary:
My Stihl MS 210C is a bit light on power and was running a bit hot during long pulls plus taking a long time to get the work done; I rented an MS 362, which was definitely too much saw. So the 260 is perfect for what for my purposes, which is felling and bucking up to 20" caliper (mostly maple) to clear land and provide firewood.
Strengths:
Plenty of power for its size/weight - well-matched to the 16" bar & standard chain. Nice balance - handles well. Starts every time with a couple of pulls. Bar/chain easy to remove - sprocket area is easy to clean. Chain tensioner very accurate & easy to set. Vibration control works well - the saw has a smooth feel when cutting @ full throttle. Top housing easy to remove to clean the cylinder head/fins. With so many of saws in service, parts are readily available. Overall clean, functional, commercial-grade design.
Weaknesses:
Air filter is a bit fussy to remove & clean. Kicks back when starting w/out decompression valve, but that's what it's there for. Still in break-in period with dealer-set rich mixture, so it doesn't like to sit at idle very long and uses more fuel accordingly. All nitpicking stuff; it's hard to find fault with this saw.

Summary:
I geuss I believe that Stihl makes a quality tool despite my experience and I'm looking at a MS361 for some limited milling with a Beam Machine from Bailey's. Also, I have a job to take down a 50" white pine that will pay for some of a new saw.
Strengths:
This is a very versatile saw with adequate power to do a lot of cutting. I had the 026 for ten years and have had the MS260 for three years. I have used these saws professionally clearing land for building, roadways, trails and activity areas at a summer camp. I can climb with this saw and easily fell anything up to 30". If you're cutting firewood I can see wanting more power for repetitive cuts with no down time. But if you're in the woods for 8 hours felling and limbing you don't want a heavier saw unless you're really big and built, or unless you're just cutting hardwood. This saw gets most jobs done fast enough. I can see the attraction of big saws - but it's more tool porn than practical...IMHO
Weaknesses:
As much as I love this saw, my second one (MS260) crapped out after 400 hours of run time, less than three years. Got no help from the dealer or Stihl because I'm a professional user. The cylinder was scored and the repair was $350. Not happy about that, but maybe I just got a lemon. "Bad gas" the dealer said. Ya, maybe. It's been perfect since the rebuild. And yes the gas cap and oil cap suck. I liked the old screw on - c'mon Stihl fix this crappy design no one likes

Summary:
When I was looking to buy a saw, I found out that the factory-certified repair tech at the local Stihl dealer owns an MS 260; I figured he must know something. Felled and bucked a large oak with my MS 260 last week. The diameter at the stump was 28" (long axis) X 26" (short axis). Saw didn't bog down and kept high revs through the cuts. Trees I'm generally dealing with are more the size you'd expect to be using a 50cc saw for, but it's nice to know it can handle bigger on occasion.
Strengths:
Light weight, reliable starting, good power and handling, easy to take apart and maintain, and great dealer support.
Weaknesses:
Can't complain about this saw.

Summary:
I personally will recommed it. It's nice a chainsaw. It's true that the price is pretty high. Repairing it, is very expensive too.
Strengths:
Pretty good strength. I like it, especially when it was new.
Weaknesses:
Now that it's about three years old. I'm getting annoyed with it though. The caps for filling up gas and oil have been giving me a lot of headaches in times when I just want to get to work. Lately I went to cut a couple of trees and in the last one, it just started to leak oil like crazy, and the power drained, so that if I couldn't cut the tree. The problem? I don't know, I need to continue learning.

Summary:
Excellent
Strengths:
Great weight for evertday trimming and cutting of trees up to 12". Easy to handle and adjust for various cutting angles. Comfortable saw
Weaknesses:
None (except for those fill caps) People speak of low power, but it has plenty for its intended use.... and then some. As with other people I have, a larger saw, and bought this for its power and weight ratio which is perfect for most everything.

Summary:
Smooth, versatile, easy-handling, & dependable 50cc saw. Standard 16" bar & .325 pitch chain is the sweet spot. The longer I own it, the more reasons I find to like it.
Strengths:
Easy to handle & plenty of power with 16" bar; just make sure it's tuned to 14,000 rpm after break-in so it puts out everything it's got. Starts easily, whether it's 86º or 26º F. Quick throttle response. Easy to clean & maintain.
Weaknesses:
Air filter is a bit kludgy to change & clean. Looks like an older design that was modified with the addition of a choke lever. In operation, it works fine, though.
