Summary:
I don't think you could buy a better trimmer. It is a runner and I have had no problems.

Summary:
Bit sceptical when purchased as bought a Honda 4stroke and wasn't impressed but it's kept up with stihls practise of producing good tools. Surprised nobodies come out with a kevlar shaft to help keep the weight down.

Strengths:
Easy starter, good fuel economy, less emissions. I give it a full minute to warm up then it gives me full power for as long as i want

Weaknesses:
only the exhaust outlet, the fs 85 that it replaced had a rear discharge exhaust, the fs90 is side discharge so have to hold the machine lower when working right to left on steep banks so i dont burn my arm or breath in the exhaust fumes

Summary:
The reviews on this motor have been showing these problems, but I thought I would try one. My comments to Stihl---"This one needs to go back for more R&D !! Maybe mine was a fluke, but have read of others also !! I feel sure the folks at Stihl will investigate problem !! Good Luck !!

Strengths:
Sarted easy, ran quiet, felt good for about 4 hours, then "DIED"

Weaknesses:
Obviously, this is not the Stihl I know and love to operate !! Motor rattled,shook and siezed !! Mix was Shell 89 octane-Stihl Ultra oil at 50:1 ratio !!

Summary:
A previous post of the FS90 Stihl problem, was found to be a missing cir-clip on piston--which allowed the motor to self-distruct. I feel sure,now, knowing Stihl's reputation this was a unfortunate assembly error. I selected to take a FS80 as a replacement.Still feel the Stihl is the best one out there !!

best trimmer i have ever used. Much smoother than echo and husky. very durable

Starting, easy to refill with line, weight, enclosed throttle trigger that doesnt catch on things and get clogged up like huskies and echos, great feel, and smooth powerband. plenty of power for most jobs.

Great string Trimmer! wish I would have bought it before going through engine problems on 3 Homelites!

Lots or torque and power! Quieter than most and cuts good! Easy to start.

Very easy starting trimmer. Has great power. Did all my trimming with only using around 1/4 to 1/2 throttle. If you needed more power it was there by just squeezing the trigger a little more. Very easy to refill the trim line.. Love a Stihl

weak clasp on the shoulder strap.... Now that is digging deep for a weakness

Summary:
My first Stihl in six years. I use their chainsaw but have been struggling with a Poulan trimmer for years. I'm really happy.

Strengths:
Just ran through my first two tanks. Amazing power and the ease of start are five stars.

Weaknesses:
I broke the shoulder harness within the first ten minutes. Cheap. If you include it, make it right.

Summary:
I have been a fan of Stihl for 15 years, but I am now looking for an alternative brand. I have contacted Stihl about the problem with no reply.

Strengths:
I have owned a FS 44 and bought the FS90 as a replacement. It is lighter than the FS 44.

Weaknesses:
Will not run for over 20 minutes and shuts off as if I hit the kill switch. It is very annoying. I tried to take it back to the place of purchase and they will not touch it. (Crown Equipment, Farmington Missouri) They were rude when I made the purchase.

Summary:
Great Trimmer, looked at Honda 4 cycle but decided to buy the FS90, more power, cost less and lighter than the Honda. The Honda is a great trimmer but I like the Stihl a little better.

After six hours of operation: Gas cap broke Engine won't start- according to dealer needs a new carburetor Trimmer String beaks and is hard to replace Return to dealer two weeks ago for warranty work. Unit not ready.

STUPID gas cap design ! Seems to have been designed by a retarded monkey! After a year of use it neither wants to install or remove.Found it leaking fuel on the lawn at times & also have had to use a screwdriver to help lift the lid off where it got so tight!DUMB!DUMB!DUMB! What was wrong with the screw on cap like on all my old Stihl stuff?????

excelent power to weight ratio. easy to put new line in,easy to perform maintainence. have owned for almost a year useing it for commercial work and it runs circles arownd others.

if your looking for a new trimmer and want it for a long time weather you will use it once a month or 15 times a day, you'll want this trimmer

Strengths:
Very easy to start, tons of power, already used on 300+ yards and only had it for 30 days, runs like new. Out lasted the fs 80(it fell off my trailer and got ran over by a car) :(

Weaknesses:
Hates cold weather, below 42 degrees takes about 5 pulls to start, have to fill it up everyday, thinking about getting a fs70 to use less fuel

this machine will outlast 10 big box store crapola gas trimmers.I made the mistake of buying a cheaper brand and it did not last.

reliable,easy starting, quiet,versatile,I use mine as a brushcutter as well

Weaknesses:
It is a bit on the heavy side but this is a minor problem.Brush cutter blades dull quickly if they contact dirt.

Summary:
Feel solid, well balanced. The 4-mix engine is not ready for the public yet. I bought mine and ran half a tank through it and took it to the shop. I was told that it was engineered that way and to get used to it. I have 10 acres to trim and I'm not about to "get used to it". I'm going shopping for a different trimmer and the fs90r is brand new.

Strengths:
When line is out at "full" length it runs great!

Weaknesses:
The second you get started and the line wears or brakes the least little bit the engine rev limiter kicks in and all you hear is that stupid thing popping and missing. You find yourself bumping out more line just to keep that stupid rev limiter from kicking in.

Summary:
Runs like a champ. Easy to start. Easy to handle. Cuts very well. Give us a new gas tank with a screw-on cap to replace the POS original.

Strengths:
Incredibly powerful and efficient in tall grass and with large weeds like thistles.

Weaknesses:
The stupid gas cap broke after a few hours use. Dealer I bought it from (Uvilla small engine in Uvilla WV) charged me for a new one. Why Stihl used such a lousy design I have no idea. Please produce a replacement gas tank with a normal screw on cap.

Summary:
Would not buy again. Expected a higher quality product for the purchase price. Based purchase decision on past experience with stihl chainsaws that had no problems.

Strengths:
Plenty of torque.Low vibration.

Weaknesses:
Very difficult to start, At no less than 5 cranks. Usually takes 10 cranks or more to fire hot or cold. Faulty gas cap, replaced under warranty. Faulty primer bulb, not covered by warranty.

Summary:
Overall great value for the money. I also own a Shin 231T and like the feel and performance of the Stihl better.

Strengths:
Great power/HP ratio. Light and easy to use. I do not like the refill mechanism for trimmmer line but most do , I prefer Shindawa version, but like I stated-most peole prefer the Stihl process.

Weaknesses:
Starts a little rough. I peobably need to tweak the carb. Stihl machines are like this.
