Summary:
Great blower. Two suggestions for owners. First - if you only use 1 section of tube it makes a noticable increase in the CFM. Less restriction = more flow. Second, if you want more MPH you can buy just the narrow tube that comes with the BG85 for about $10 over the parts counter.

Strengths:
This blower has surprising power for a consumer model. The Stihl commercial stuff does not really have much more output. Construction is really solid. I've dropped it pretty hard more than once.

Weaknesses:
It could be easier to start. It always has run for me, even on stale fuel. It just takes more pulls than I would like.

Summary:
I'm happy.

Strengths:
Good for a home owner. Nice not to be teathered to a power cable. The BG55 is pretty stout, its got more power than I expected.

Weaknesses:
Not enough to rip wet leaves off the driveway, you probably need a backpack blower to do that. Could take a few less pulls to start, but I often have bad fuel.

Great blower but temperamental.

Strengths:
Powerful; blows everything I point it at, no matter how heavy or wet. Blasts goo and muck out of gutters and downspouts. Blower tube breaks in half by twisting on or off, making it easier to store. Good value price-wise.

Weaknesses:
Floods easily, at which point you are screwed and it will not start. Most online reviews mention this and advise not to use choke or priming bulb more than once or twice. It's really heavy and torques quite a bit, but it does not come with a load-bearing strap. Has capability to vacuum if you have the kit, but that's separate as well.

Summary:
Expensive and not worth the headaches...pulled out the $29 electric blower and be done!

Strengths:
Great when it runs ! Carb gunks up so easy....Wonder how the commercial units run? DONT prime bulb more than once or twice or you will be screwed by lockup

Weaknesses:
POOR realiablity...been in shop 3 times in a year for non sart and half throttle issues

Strengths:
Purchased last year new from Ebay. Works great. We own 7 acres farm with lots of trees. Time to begin leaf blowing again. I have learned to leave the switch to the off position, push the primer button about 10 times, give it a couple of pulls, turn the switch to on, pull a couple of times and it starts great.

Wished it weighed a little less.

Worked great for 4 days. Liked the weight since I have been carrying a 25lb John Deere on my back. Start was easy as long as on the ground.

Weaknesses:
Would not start on 5th use day. Has been in for repair already and have returned 2 x's for pick up. But was still not in quality running condition. Exhaust sucks up your clothing if used left handed. Very dissatisfied with my first Stihl product.

Strengths:
Very strong and mid-weight blower at a good price. Amazing performance over my Toro electric. I run it all weekend due to my 2-1/2 acre lot surrounded by 20 acres of woods.

Weaknesses:
Zama carb is always clogged. There's some ports in the carb that are sealed with epoxy which breaks down and clogs ports. I was able to get spare carb parts from the dealer because he warranties a lot of them. Fuel tank is two piece too, and leaks from somewhere not visible. Have to drain fuel after every use.

Summary:
I enjoyed it while it worked. But should have lasted a little longer than the waranty.

Strengths:
Powerful and great for homeowner. Pump bulb 3 time and choke. Pull a couple of times and starts. shut choke off. If dies leave choke off and pull start. it starts easy just dont prime more than 3 times.

Weaknesses:
Had little over 2 years and lost compression and shop says piston is bad or scared. Used same oil and gas mixture in trimmer from same gas can and no problems with trimmer. Both Stihl. Seems it will cost as much as a new one to repair.

Summary:
Recommended.

Blows like a MO FO for a Joe Homeowner class blower. Works great, never any problems.

Excellent power-to-weight ratio.

Weaknesses:
Ran well for first 10 months, then began losing power after running for two minutes, then quit completely after three minutes. Re-starts ok, but quits again after 2-3 minutes. Cleaned gas tank and carb; replaced fuel filter, air filter, and spark plug; use Stihl oil and 89 octane fuel. Same problem exists. Choke lever isn't long enough to use easily when wearing gloves. The low speed ajustment screw is obscured by the handle and requires an offset screwdriver to adjust. The spark plug is crowded by the handle and difficult to remove/install. Generally poor design for routine maintenance.

Summary:
Great product, worth every penny...No Problems with any of the formentioned gas issues. Maybe they need to use good gas, not old varnishy stuff. Gas today will only last 30-Days, then break down. Keep it fresh by not overstocking

Currently the machine will not start needs a carburator according to the dealer. I contact Stihl and they will do nothing for me, blaming me for the problems. READ THIS - MAJOR FAILURE POINT - This Fall I started to use it and the choke lever was loose and did not work. I opened the air cleaner and discovered that there should have been a small silver nut that holds the choke arm together, and it was missing. It seemed obvious that it had fallen off and been ingested by the engine, which no longer runs. Of course, this happened as soon as my warranty ran out. Back to the dealer, which resulted in some earnest discussion and my call to the reginal manager. He agreed to have the dealer tear it down and look for engine damage, with the condition that I would pay $$ if there was none. As it turned out, this is exactly when had happened, and Stihl is covering this under warranty. IF YOU OWN THIS PRODUCT you should check for this problem, you could save your blower from serious damage.

I would never buy another Stihl product if this was the only product I had tried. I finally junked the entire product and accessories after trying the vacuum.

Strengths:
Decent Motor but under powered.

Weaknesses:
Weak tubes, hard to align and disconnet. You need a tool for main tube removal and vacuum intake opening. Not durable as other Stihl products. Never Buy this hoping to vaccum. That is a serious piece of trash. Chokes on everything. Expect to constanlty fight to keep the vacuum running.

10 months old, Never ran well. unrepairable failure. Will not honor warranty. Blaming on ethanol in gas which is all that is available. My 10 year old Echo runs from the same can of fuel which is 30 days old. Buy an Echo, Stihl does not honor their warranty.

Summary:
I have a Stihl string trimmer with the same engine and it runs fine on the same gas used in the blower so bad gas is not the issue. I was relying on the Stihl name for quality and it may be available in their chain saws but I made a mistake with the blower. Cheaper machines seem to be more reliable and if they fail are cheaper to replace and less agrivating to own.

Strengths:
When it runs, has plenty of power I would think for most applications

Weaknesses:
Very Very hard to start. Dealer tuned it up, charged me again for replacing a just installed brand new air filter and spark plug but the problem remains. Dealer service is rather expensive and most parts are not available except from Stihl Dealers.

Summary:
Great unit. Wish I had bought the slightly more powerful BG85 unit, but that was about $100.00 more. The Doubling of the warrantee was the decider over the more powerfull husky.

Excellent Power/weight ratio. Great improvent over the lower cost box-store units. 4 Year Warantee.

I have had other Stihl products and was hoping this would be as useful as those. I have never been more disappointed in a new product purchase as I was with the BG55. Reviewing the comments before me there are far too many that sound like mine to think that my situation was the exception. I believe that Stihl has lost control of the usefulness and reliability of their product.

FIND YOU A STIHL MASTER WRENCH/ELITE DEALER TO DO BUSINESS WITH, THEY HAVE THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF TRAINING AND CAN DEAL WITH YOUR PROBLEM PROPERLY.

It's been the best blower that I've ever used for its size. Never a problem with it. Easy to start, doesn't need AA meetings like my Echo did (it don't use the Fuel). It has the same amount of power my Echo did, and has lasted longer.

Tuck your shirt tail in, because if you use it in your left hand with your shirt tail out it will try to suck it in!

Summary:
Had 2 BG 55's, I must be a slow learner. Runs great if and when it starts. I'm very familiar with power equipment, and this product is a BEAST to start. Floods easy, if it starts in ten pulls, I was lucky. Usually 20 to 30 pulls. Had units back to several Stihl Dealers in Wisconsin and Florida, use fresh gas, etc. No real improvement. Son in law has same unit, with same problem. I will never buy Sthil again!!
